Photo 52: A Play on Light (Week 3)

"Most of the shadows of this life are caused by our standing in our own sunshine."  -Ralph Waldo Emerson

Here is week three of our long-term collaborative photo project concentrating on light and learning  to master its many dynamic forms. Last weekend, Miles and I escaped to Nantucket for a few days sans kids. It was truly an Indian Summer and the island was deserted. It was perfect. Now that it's Fall, the shadows are deeper and more apparent to me and I especially loved the ones I found on the beach. Here is my take on shadows for week 3:

Beach grass and wooden fences are the epitome of coastal beach living. Here on Galley Beach in Nantucket.

"Our job is to record, each in his own way, this world of light and shadow and time that will never come again exactly as it is today." - Edward Abbey

Here is week two of the long-term collaborative photo project I am participating in with several other talented photographers whom I have come to know and admire over the past year. This project concentrates on light and learning to master its many dynamic forms. We spend several weeks at at time exploring a common overarching theme so we can really dig in deep, have fun, and take creative risks. Here is my latest take on this month's theme, Playing with Shadows:

Waiting for the bell to enter school

This was back to school week on the blog and when I saw this shadow of Drew with her backpack, I had to take a shot to remember it. She was a little shy and nervous that morning.

Next up in our creative blog circle is the talented Kelly Patton. Please take a moment to check out Kelly's play on shadows, here.

“Light makes photography. Embrace light. Admire it. Love it. But above all, know light. Know it for all you are worth, and you will know the key to photography.” - George Eastman.

Today I am thrilled to announce that I am embarking on a 52 week collaborative photo project with a group of talented and diverse women from across the country and abroad. We have very different lives and distinct styles but a common love for photography.

This project concentrates on light and learning to master its many dynamic forms. Each month, one of us will pick a light-related topic and we will all post a weekly shot based on our interpretations of that theme. The first month of Project Light is Playing with Shadows. My interpretation for this week is below.

To see everyone else's amazing work, please continue along the chain. Next up in our blog circle is the lovely and talented Stacey Vukelj. Take a moment to check out her creative interpretation using shadows.
